Privacy Policy
1814607 Alberta Ltd., operating as DAS Automotive ("DAS", "we"), 11319 163 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5M 1Y7. This policy explains how we handle personal information under Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) where it applies, and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
1. Privacy Officer
Questions, access or correction requests and complaints: Privacy Officer, David Ahmadi, info@dasautoedm.com, (780) 232-6449, at the address above.
2. What we collect
- Contact details: name, phone, email, mailing address.
- Vehicle details: VIN, year, make, model, plate, odometer, service and inspection history, photos and videos of the vehicle.
- Transaction records: estimates, authorizations, invoices, payments (method, amount and card type only; we do not store full card numbers).
- Identification: only when an inspection or a legal obligation requires it (for example Alberta salvage or out-of-province inspections). We record only the details needed and do not collect health numbers or citizenship information.
- Communications: texts, emails and feedback you send us.
- Technical data: sign-in and security logs for our staff systems and customer links.
3. Why we collect it
To book and perform services and inspections; prepare estimates, invoices and legally required inspection records; contact you about your vehicle; process payments; meet legal, regulatory, tax and insurance obligations; prevent fraud; and send service reminders and offers. We collect only what is reasonable for these purposes.
4. Consent
By agreeing when you book, check in or use our customer links, you consent to these purposes. Some consent is implied, for example giving your phone number to be called about your vehicle. You may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual limits; we will tell you what withdrawing means (for example, we cannot complete a legally required inspection without required information).
5. Reminders and offers
Customers receive service reminders and offers by text or email for up to two years after their last purchase or inquiry, or longer with express consent. Every message identifies DAS Automotive and includes a way to unsubscribe. Reply STOP to any text or use the unsubscribe link in any email; we act on it immediately and always within 10 business days. Messages about an existing service, such as a ready-for-pickup notice or a recall or safety notice, continue after you unsubscribe from offers.
6. Who we share it with
We never sell personal information. We share it only:
- with service providers who work for us under contract and only for our purposes;
- with government bodies when the law requires it (for example Alberta Transportation, registries, AMVIC, police with legal authority);
- with your insurer or another party you ask us to share with;
- if the business is sold, to the buyer, under the same protections.
7. Service providers outside Canada
Our database, stored files and backups are hosted in Canada. Like most service businesses, we use trusted service providers, bound by contract to protect your information and use it only for our purposes. Some of them are located in, or process information in, the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under US law.
| Type of service provider | What they do for us | Where information may be processed |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud hosting and storage | Hosts our systems, database, files and backups | Canada |
| Communications | Delivers our text messages and emails | United States |
| Secure sign-in | Verifies staff identity when they sign in | United States |
| AI and document processing | Reads licence and VIN photos, assists staff with technical and written work | United States |
| Payment processing | Processes card payments | Canada or United States |
| Parts and repair information | Parts ordering and repair information for your vehicle (vehicle details only) | Canada or United States |
To obtain information about our policies on these providers, or to ask questions about them, contact the Privacy Officer.
8. How we protect it
Encryption in transit and at rest, with sensitive fields separately encrypted; access limited by role; audit logs; encrypted off-site backups; device controls on shop tablets; staff confidentiality obligations. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. How long we keep it
Only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law: invoices and financial records for six years after the end of the tax year they relate to (Canada Revenue Agency); inspection certificates and Records of Inspection for the current calendar year and the four years before it (Vehicle Inspection Regulation, s. 81(2)); photographs of salvage vehicle repairs for five years (Alberta Vehicle Inspection Program). If you send or show us a photo of your driver's licence (for example at express check-in), we use it to fill in your name and address and keep the photo encrypted on your file, viewable only by authorized office staff, until you ask us to delete it; we never record health numbers or citizenship information. For a salvage inspection we view the owner's licence to confirm it matches the Rebuilt Vehicle Work Plan. After these periods, information is securely destroyed or anonymized.
10. Your rights
You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask how it was used and to whom it was disclosed, and ask us to correct it. Send a written request to the Privacy Officer. We respond within 45 days, as PIPA requires, and may charge a reasonable fee as PIPA permits, telling you first. We may refuse access where the law allows and will give reasons.
11. Breaches
If a loss of or unauthorized access to personal information creates a real risk of significant harm, we report it to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta without unreasonable delay and notify affected individuals as required.
12. Complaints
Contact the Privacy Officer first. If you are not satisfied, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta (oipc.ab.ca).
13. Changes
We may update this policy and will post the new version with its effective date. Material changes to how we use your information will be brought to your attention before they apply to you.
Terms of Service
These terms apply to DAS Automotive's website, online booking, customer portal, express check-in and messages (the "Services"). Repair and inspection work is also governed by the estimate, work order and invoice terms you approve at the shop. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the Alberta Consumer Protection Act or other law that cannot be waived.
1. Using the Services
You agree to give accurate information, use only your own contact details or those you are authorized to provide, and not misuse the Services (including attempting unauthorized access, interfering with their operation, or uploading unlawful or harmful content). Keep the links we send you private; anyone with a link can view what it shows.
2. Information you provide
You are responsible for the accuracy of what you submit, including vehicle details, VIN and odometer. Information read automatically from photos (such as a licence or VIN) is checked by our staff, and you should tell us of any error. We are not responsible for delays or errors caused by inaccurate information you provide.
3. Bookings and appointments
Times are confirmed only when we confirm them. We may reschedule or decline a booking, and will tell you as soon as practical. Quoted prices in a booking are estimates for the described service; additional work requires your approval as required by law.
4. Inspections
An inspection reports the condition of the vehicle at the time and under the standards of the applicable inspection program. It is not a warranty that the vehicle is free of defects or will remain in that condition, and it does not cover components that cannot be inspected without disassembly unless stated. Official certificates are issued only through the Government of Alberta's systems.
5. Messages
We send texts and emails about your bookings, vehicle and services, and, as described in the Privacy Policy, reminders and offers. Standard carrier rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop offers. We are not responsible for messages delayed or not delivered by your carrier or email provider.
6. Availability
We aim to keep the Services available and accurate but provide them "as is" and "as available". They may be interrupted for maintenance, outages or events beyond our control.
7. Security
We protect information with reasonable safeguards described in the Privacy Policy. No online service is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur. If it does, we will act as the law requires.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, DAS Automotive, its owners, employees and contractors are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses (including lost income, loss of use of a vehicle, or loss of data) arising from use of, or inability to use, the Services, or from events beyond our reasonable control, including the acts of third parties such as unauthorized access by criminals despite our reasonable safeguards, carrier or internet failures, or failures of third-party providers. Our total liability arising from the Services is limited to the amount you paid us for the service the claim relates to. These limits do not apply to liability that cannot be limited by law, including for our negligence where the law does not permit a limit, or to your rights under consumer protection law.
9. Events beyond our control
We are not responsible for failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as power or internet outages, natural disasters, government action, labour disruption or failures of suppliers or service providers.
10. Your vehicle
Work on your vehicle is governed by the estimate and work order you approve. Vehicles left after we notify you that work is complete may be subject to storage charges as stated on the work order, and to a lien for unpaid charges as permitted by Alberta law.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes are to be heard in the courts of Alberta, without limiting any right you have to complain to a regulator such as AMVIC or the Privacy Commissioner.
12. Changes and severability
We may update these terms by posting a new version with its effective date; changes apply from then on. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These terms, the Privacy Policy and your approved estimate or work order are the full agreement for the Services.
